Abstract: In order to observe the similarities and differences of the flow around the two columns respectively with round and square sections, the Fluent software is used to perform numerical simulations of the two columns under different velocities and directions of the incoming current. The result is analyzed and compared in terms of forces on the columns, fluid trace curves, and vortex shedding patterns. It is found that the fluid separation point is fixed for the square column, and the Strouhal value is smaller than that of the round column under the same conditions. Besides, the flow characteristics around the square column vary along with the direction of the incoming current and the statistical values of the fluid forces are also very different from those of the round column, but the relationship of the lift-drag frequencies of the two columns are almost the same.

(Marine Design & Research Institute of China, Shanghai 200011, China)
Abstract: The UR S11A standard issued by International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) for the global longitudinal strength assessment of container ship is compared with the UR S34 minimum requirements for the finite element strength assessment of container ship, and the differences are mainly found in the global longitudinal strength assessment method, the vertical wave bending moment and the vertical wave shear force equations. Then calculations are performed on the base of two types of ultra large container ship developed by MARIC to analyze the influence of UR S11A on the longitudinal structural component dimensions at 3 typical locations (0.25L, 0.50L and 0.75L), especially the influence on the shear strength. Major contents of UR S34 are also introduced.

Analysis on the Critical Buckling Load of Offshore Pipe Structure
under Characteristic Load
ZHANG Yong-qiang
(Guangzhou Salvage Bureau of the Ministry of Transport, Guangzhou 510260, China)
Abstract: Cylindrical pipe structure is often used in the offshore engineering, therefore its buckling strength under lateral load should be given more attentions at the structure design stage. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulations should be carried out to study the buckling behavior of the cylindrical shell under different radial linear load. Thus the equation for cylindrical shell buckling control could be obtained on the basis of the classical Donnell shell theory, and the critical structural buckling condition is obtained through eigenvalue analysis. It is concluded that the radius thickness ratio is the major influencing factor of the cylindrical shell buckling under linearly varying load and the critical buckling load under triangular radial loading is twice as large as that under uniform radial loading.

ANSYS-WORKBENCH Based Load Analysis and
Experimental Study of Winch Drum
SUN Kai,LIU Sheng
(Wuhan Marine Machinery Plant Co., Ltd., Wuhan 430084, China)
Abstract: According to the actual working conditions of hydraulic tension/anchorage winch, the finite element model of the hydraulic tension/anchorage winch drum is established with ANSYS-WORKBENCH, and the stress-strain is analyzed for two loading conditions, i.e. braking force condition and sustaining load condition. The maximum overall stresses obtained are smaller than the allowed stress of the material, which meets the strength requirement. Meanwhile, the braking force and the sustaining load of the hydraulic tension/anchorage winch are tested with the hydro-cylinder loading method to see if the winch strength and stiffness comply with the requirement. The experiment result shows that the winch drum hasn’t obvious deformation, and there isn’t clamping stagnation in the experiment, so both the strength and stiffness of the winch drum meet the application requirement.

Abstract: This paper elaborates the reason behind the local vibration of stern and its solutions for China’s first series of large Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers (1.47×105 m3). Hull appendages (such as the vortex generator) around the engine region are installed to improve the flow passing the propeller and to reduce the propeller exciting forces. Thus, the local vibration at stern is significantly reduced. To solve the vibration problem of new buildings, selection of a correct research plan is the first step, but there are not many options available due to the limitations of time, cost and other conditions. However, the efficiency and correctness of the plan can be effectively improved with underwater imagery, sensor information collection and the simulations based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The analysis on the vibration solution for installing and optimizing the vortex generators on LNG carriers would provide references and experience for the solutions of the similar problem.

JIANG Zhi-qiang,ZHAO Zhi-hua,YANG Rui-ling
(Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., Shanghai 200129, China)
Abstract: The stern door is a watertight device for the large stern opening of the 45000t Con-Ro ship. It consists of the main body and the ro/ro flap which are actuated by the hydro-cylinder with the mode of top lift-up opening. The main body functions as the watertight boundary between the ro/ro cargo space and the external space, while the ro/ro flap functions as the connection between stern ramp and the ro/ro passage way. Under working condition, the ro/ro flap is attached to the stern ramp to ensure that the cars enter the cargo space without hindrance. When the passage way is to be closed, the ro/ro flap is retrieved before the stern door is closed, which makes the surrounding structures recuperated to the normal condition and the passage way kept watertight. This paper mainly studies the installation of the main body, the ro/ro flap and its components, as well as their pre-installation preparations and process control together with the precision control of the stern door in both opening and closing process. The purpose is to achieve the required installation accuracy and reliability which meet the anticipated design requirements, and to provide reference for the stern door installation of the subsequent ships.

(Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., Shanghai 200129, China)
Abstract: Welding deformation of 2205duplex stainless steel often occurs in chemical tanker construction, whereas ship owners are usually opposite to use the method of hot processing for straightening. Thus the oil pump jack-up method and the stiffener pulling method are often used as the option to deal with the deformation of duplex stainless steel in welding though they are rather complicated. This paper introduces the analysis and experiments carried out by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. to solve the problem of deformation flattening with the heat treatment method for duplex stainless steel and elaborates the key control points. It is expected to provide the pre-theoretical research support for the deformation flattening method in this field.
