(Hudong-zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., Shanghai 200129, China)
Abstract: The 45000t Con-Ro ship is a brand new ship type with very complicated hull structures. It adopts completely different design concept from conventional Con-Ro ships, in which the middle hull area is arranged for ro-ro cargo and the fore and aft areas for container. It also adopts the large opening and hatchless design for the container compartment below the main deck. The innovative design can effectively reduce the amount of ballast water in operation, maximize the loading capacity and improve the economic efficiency of the ship. This paper mainly introduces the structural characteristics, design difficulties and the strength calculation problems in the design, and elaborates the design of critical positions. The solutions for the structural design problems and the design methods of the ship could be a reference for the design of similar ships.

Abstract: In order to study the influence of earthquake on Christmas tree structures, this study uses the spectrum method to perform the response analysis of the Christmas tree structures under earthquakes. Modal analysis is carried out for the structures to evaluate the potential probability of adverse dynamic responses occurring to the structures. The seismic response spectrum analysis method is adopted to analyze the seismic responses of the Christmas tree structures in the X, Y and Z directions. The results show that vertical earthquakes have the largest influence on the structures, but the earthquake does not have major influence on the Christmas tree structures in the selected sea regions.

Abstract: According to the specifications of the main propulsion system and the rules of classification for the 36000dwt multi-purpose vessel, resistance computations are performed with HydroComp software and ShipPower software on the basis of hull parameters in order to obtain the resistance of the ship. Then, HydroComp software is used again for the preliminary design of hull-engine-propeller matching based on the resistance obtained to define the power of the main engine and the optimal rpm of the propeller. After that, main engine could be selected with a comprehensive consideration on engine power, propeller, optimal rpm, initial investment, fuel consumption, weight, sea margin and etc. HydroComp software is also used for the final design of hull-engine-propeller matching according to the main engine selected and the ship resistance in order to define the main parameters of the propeller such as diameter, average pitch, area ratio and efficiencies. Finally, shaft system preliminary design is performed in accordance with the classification rules to determine the shaft diameter and thus ship design is accomplished. The result shows that the design can meet the requirements of the specifications and the parameters can be used as the base of both the quotation of power system and the purchase of main engine, shaft system and propeller.

Abstract: This study proposes a design principle of comprehensive protection measures which combines the failure security control circuit and the redundancy communication network for the jacking control system of JU2000E jack-up drilling platform in order to improve the safety of jacking operation of the jack-up drilling platforms. The principle is suitable for the conventional variable frequency driven jacking control system both theoretically and practically. The failure mode influence analysis and the jacking experiments verify mutually the effectiveness and the reliability of the comprehensive protection measures under different conditions.

Analysis on the Configuration of Propulsion and Power Systems for both Medium and Large AHTS Vessels
HU Peng
(Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 200030, China)
Abstract: Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessel can be used not only for anchor handling, provision supply and large offshore structures towing such as drilling platforms towing, but also for emergency rescues under special circumstances. Therefore, the required propulsion power and electrical loads are very different under different operation conditions (e.g. towing, full speed cruising, economical cruising and dynamic positioning). If all the operation conditions could be considered comprehensively in the preliminary design stage to have the propulsion power and electrical loads deployed properly, the operations of the vessel can be ensured with lower initial investment and lower operational costs. Further analysis on the configurations of two types of the major propulsion and generator system is also carried out according to the operational characteristics of AHTS to discuss the selection and optimization of the configuration for the propulsion and generator system of the future.

Abstract: This study establishes a 3D simulation model for the block construction (including section assembly) of indoor assembly in welding workshop based on the production scheduling simulation method. Accurate evaluation of production capacity, space utilization, production plan and other parameters for the specific construction can be achieved with the simulation data and the production plan and space arrangement are optimized with a sequence based optimization method to rectify the inappropriateness. The result of the analysis on some examples shows that the proposed optimization method can reduce the block construction cycle, increase space utilization, and thus provide support to the production plan making and to the improvement of production scheduling.

in Large Quarter Ramp Installation

(Hudong-zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., Shanghai 200129, China)
Abstract: Quarter ramp is the passage for cargos and vehicles rolling on/off the Ro-Ro ship. It is usually connected to the ship by a number of hinges. The manufactory of the quarter ramp has strict regulations on the coaxiality of the hinges, which means the hinges must be measured and controlled in the installation to realize a precise alignment. In this paper, the measurement method of the coaxiality for large size hinges is studied by measuring the deflection of the main engine foundation on the basis of the sagging of a piano wire, and thus the approximate center line of the hinges is obtained. Then a model for the sagging curve of the piano wire is established in accordance with the gravitation, and the offset between the sagging and the center line of the hinges is calculated. In addition to this, an alignment tool to measure and control coaxiality is designed, which have two points flashing on the center. These two points indicate the center line of the hinges found by the laser theodolites, and the piano wire is fixed and strained on the tool with the two points as the scale mark. The result of the study has been successfully applied to the hinge installation of the quarter ramps on the 45000t Con-Ro ship series, which plays an active role both in raising work efficiency and in improving the quality of the equipment.
